Today is the Technical Services Away Day. This year it was done in Sunway Lagoon. It is my first time there to be honest. But, I have heard a lot of stories about the challenges inisde. Some said it is exciting, some said it was scary.... well, I guess it is a good oppurtunity for me to go experience myself.
Part I: Wet Challenges.
After registration and also breakfast, we were briefed and then pursue our tasks in 2 groups; one to tackle to wet challenges and another to the dry challenges. I was in the wet. We are fully prepared in swim suit and sandals.
Task 1: Fun at Little Zimbabwe with Coloured Balloons. The pool is a kiddy pool about my thigh high. But, being a person who can drink more than I can swim, wading through the pool was not easy, and my steps are small and short. So, you are like watching a chicken wadding through the pool, as fast as the feet can carry. And we have to climb the slides which is slippery, grabbed the balloons and popped it. The, rally went on until we have 10 balloons. Sounded easy, but my legs were weak after 2 rounds, lucky only 2 rounds.
Task 2: Relay at Zambezi River. This task only need 6 persons. I took myself out. 3 to rally the alphabet through approximately 10 m water wading (again) and then threw it up to the partner standing on the bridge. The partner will then run as fast as possible and bring the alphabet back to the marshall. Our alphabet got stucked up the tree nearby! Arghhh..... we spend good old 10 minutes trying to bring that thing down. Broom, slippers whatever we can gather to pull the alphabet down, and lastly, one of the team member have to climb the tree to get it down..... sigh!
Task 3: Paddle through Mali Cove. Only 3 persons doing this. Easy but exhausting .... one person sat on the floater and was being pulled from one end to another and back of the pull.... I think it was about a 50 m pull. Seems easy, but the one who pulled were very exhausted.
Task 4: Sub-scramble in Lake Kariba. It is underwater crossword puzzle. Each of us have to get 2 stones with alphabets in the pool and came back up to form the crossword puzzle "Together we can move mountains" . Again, I have the duty to do the crossword when others dived in for the stones.
Already half exhausted with the first part, but then it didn't end here. There is Part II.
Part II: Dare
Yes, you have to do something challenging. team now are divided into 3 groups to tackle 3 tasks in 2 hours. Here are the tasks:
Task 1: Congo Challenge, Niagara Falls FLume Ride, African Phytons, Grand Canyon River Rapids.
Task 2: Pedestrian suspension bridge (walk backwards and upon reaching the marshall to perform a specific task), Galleon (Pirate Ship), Wagon Wheel, Buffalo Bill Coaster
task 3: Kalahari Kids (sing PS's company song while wainting for tub to be filled with water), Lost City of Gold, Shower Station at Surf Beach, Tomahawk.
My group was doing task 3. 5 of us in the team. When we reached Kalahari Kids, we assumed our place uderneath the tub and started singing. By the time we sang "we are Prudential" .... the whole tub of water "splash!" from top. We are dreached and still have to continue to sing until it is finished.
Next we went to the Lost City of Gold .. we have to ride the coaster, I left it for my other 4 members for I cannot take the excitement. (rules: at least 4 members on the ride). After that we went for the TOMAHAWK! Again, I chose to be property guardian..... hehe.. scared ma. But the thing is , our COO was on the TOMAHAWK before us!
Finally, we have to go all the way back to the Surf beach. We have to sing in the shower station where water is splashing us all over. I am totally drenched. We only have a wee bit of time to change, wipe dry and eat and then we prepared for the final part.
Part III: Anthem singing
Not yet prize giving, but getting there. Before that, we have to do the anthem performance. All the athem is based on the rhythm and rhyme of "Twinkle twinkle little star" or "Baa Baa Black Sheep". This is also the time when all the time will take out their "secret weapon". All teams have their probes and anthem ready.
Tapir was in "Sticky team"... she had a tattoo stick on her right cheek and a bandanna over her head. Looks like some lost pirates... :-P. There is this team "Flush Away" - they have the mouse ears, nose and tail. The ladies even have a ribbon between the ears ... looks more like mickey and minnie mouse. Our team is "Magneto Bees" - the creative member actually did the "tentacle" (temporarily forgotten what is it called) and the wings..... so we are buzzing in and out the anthem. We did not get the prize for the tasks..... but we won 1st prize for the anthem and mascot. Yay Yay!!!!!
We went home, tired. But, we still went for drinks in Time square. First thing I did went I reached home is to nap for an hour.... it was more fun than last year.
