Matta Fair

We are there at 10 am. We were early as there is nobody queueing for tickets. So we got our tickets and put it on. Colleague A was very estatic and excited. Making funny noises like small kids...hehehehe, worst part is she is married! It is her first time to Matta fair.

We went in through the 3rd hall. 3rd hall is more on local destinations. But our aim is for out of country trips. 3 of us have mind for Cambodia, Colleague A is scouting air ticket for Toronto, Canada, and I need to scout air ticket to Melbourne for Piggy. We went straight to hall 2.

In hall 2, the moment we stepped in, we were being approached by this MAS guy promoting on this membership card - free for life and can accumulate points if you fly with MAS and other airlines, stay in the hotel listed and etc. And we are given a nice luggage lock as gift. Not bad. So all 4 of us signed in. Then, we also scouted for the price to Siam Reap offered by MAS - but it was expensive.

While I look look and see see on the packages or air ticket to Siam Reap, Colleague A very busy gathering pamplets. She approached all the people with colourful papers and even pester until she was given one piece. -_-""". Colleague B busy collecting booklets. Those with beautiful photos. Colleague C - blur blur.

We spent about 3 hrs there but we did not get a fair deal. We travel in 3. Best deal provided for those travel in 4. Sigh... end up we booked our own air ticket and accomodation online. It is cheaper so.

Anyway, we will still go to the next Matta fair - 14-16 of March 2008. Who knows, we might get a good deal then.

Aftermath

Now it is time to think how to keep myself safe. A few things need to be done.

1. Pepper Spray.
Brother: Must get one.
Piggy: I think I better lend you my pepper spray first. Powerful one.

Searching every pharmacy .... either don't have or they don't even know what is pepper spray. Like I am asking something foreign. Sigh.....

2. Purse
After this incident, I am thinking I cannot place all my credit cards and money in one place. Usually my bulky purse will be in my bag. So now, I 'create' another purse and this one will be in my pants pocket. In case they snatch my bag.... I only lose a bit of money, 1 credit card, IC license and some junk.

3. Walking alone.
After this incident, if I am necessary to walk out alone, umbrella is a compulsory tool to bring. At least I have a weapon with me. Brother said " pepper spray in one, umbrella in another." Now I wish I know tai chi, taekwondo or something. Am I too late to learn?

Also, do not bring excessive money when go out to buy dinner or lunch......

4. Scream
I did not scream when incident happen. In science, emergency reflects can be "Fight" or "Flight". Mine was to fight. If I would have screamed then maybe the thief would have flight off cause I would have attract people.

So, I have to practise how to scream.

5. Keep eyes open.
Constant vigilant. I will try ....

6. Walk in pairs
If can, please always have company.... safer that way.

Whatever it is, just be careful. Hopefully all these measures can reduce the possibility of being nabbed by snatch thief or if you happen to be a victim, at least the damage is lessen.

Let's pray.

Attacked

I was walking by the main road to buy my dinner. Mamak store was only 5 minutes walk from home. Sky is still clear at 7.30 pm. I did not bring much money, only RM 10. No handphone either. I brought along umbrella as it rained just now.

As I walked, suddenly I felt this motor came very close to me. Suspicious, I tried to walk faster but suddenly this the pillion jumped down and attacked me from behind. He pushed me to the ground. I cannot registered clearly why he do that.. until he tried to reach for my pocket.

I screamed " Tak da duit la , bodoh. Tak da duit." I don't remember to scream for help. He kept pulling on my pants. I was wrestling with him on the ground with him hovering over. I kicked him and hit him with my umbrella. At the same time I am pulling on my pants as well.

Then came passerby car and stopped. They ran off. Nothing robbed, but I was left on the ground, bruising on my elbow and trying to overcome the shock. Passerby car escorted me home.

I am still trying to recover from the shock. I am more angry than scared. Really hope I hit him bad with that umbrella. Thinking back, I am lucky he don't have a weapon. If he has, I think I am lying at the hospital bed by now.
